Chingay 2011

We had the opportunity to go to the Chingay parade this Lunar New Year. Thanks to Boon Eng. This year's event was held at the Pit Building near the iconic Singapore Flyer. As the parade is on a Friday night, we made our way there directly after work, rushed through dinner & sat on our alloted seats with excitement. The heavy downpour a few hours before did not dampen our mood!

Chingay started in 1973, a year after I was born. The idea of Chingay parade was started to enhance the Lunar New Year mood after the fiercracker ban.

The parade kicked off with a big bang amidst cheering from the crowd & host. We were thrilled with the colouful sight & loud noise from the crackers & confetti. Chloe was thrilled to catch hold of the confetti everytime they were released. I especially adored the pair of 88m long Flying Dragons from Xi'an, China. They were a spectacular sight floating in mid air. The cheerleading team from Taiwan wowed me with their almost perfect somersaults. My other favourite were the giraffes from Resorts World Sentosa. They were a hit with the audience. They were cute! Overall, I love the colourful array of costumes on display & the stunning makeup on the faces of the participants.

Watching the parade on TV was not at all interesting. I prefer to squeeze through any available space I got from watching the parade live & snapped pictures non-stop.

The parade is my first & I must say I enjoyed it tremendously. I hope to get a chance to watch it again!

I have always preferred the Christmas season more than the Lunar New Year. The silver & gold on Christmas decors would appeal more to me compared to the clashing red & gold normally seen at Chinese festivals.

Somehow this year, I got the 'CNY mood' & decided to get some decorative stuff, cookies & tidbits just to FEEL the mood :P When I was young, my mother would gather my sisters around & we would help to hang little birds on pussy willow , tie red ribbons on the branches & even making lanterns out of red packets. These activities got us all in the mood & excited to welcome the lunar new year.

Pete & I went to Chinatown to source for couplets ie 春联 & other CNY decor without the kids. Besides soaking up the fun, I get some retail therapy with the shoppping.

Yay! The Decal Is Up!

We finally got to work a week after the decal arrived . I wanted to make sure we start the project on a clean surface, so i dug up the store room for leftover paint used during our renovation 2 years ago. Pete did most of the work. He helped repaint the dining area & we let it dry for a few days before putting up the decal. We did this while the kids were asleep of cos.

I must say it takes quite a bit of skill to put the decal up. There were a few heart stopping, 'breath holding' moments as the decal did not stick as firmly as it should. We tried again & again making sure the decal really stuck to the wall praying not to tear any intricate part.

Alas, our efforts paid off. Phew! so here it is, my NEW dining space hehehe.

Chloe has a penchant for shoes. She loves going to shoe boutiques with me & would not hesitate to pass me different styles of shoes to try on. She would tell me to try on the shoes she picked, asking me if I like them. She would do all sorts of crazy things like trying adult shoes on herself, lining different shoes in a straight line & admiring them while I am busy in the boutique. Thank god so far I havn't got a single sales girl stare at me for what my little girl has done!

We were invited to Irin's place for a Xmas gathering with the kids. Chloe had great fun playing with her playmates. Besides the Turkey ham, sushi rolls, log cake & the likes, there were Irin's egg jellies. They were a hit with the kids! Chloe insisted to peel the egg shell herself without my help. She gobbled one & a half of the Christmas coloured eggs!

We had a simple celebration at home with Sheryl, Lucas, Dad & Aunty this year. Hong Kong noodles, Laksa with quails eggs, Cheesy Hotdogs, Honey baked ham & not forgetting Aunty Wati's delicious Marmite chicken was laid out on the dining table. Sheryl brought us a Christmas log cake from Pine Gardens. It was yummy & soft! Best of all it's lychee martini flavour. One of my favourite! Too bad I forgot to take shots of the yummlicious spread hee.

The kids opened their Christmas pressies soon after dinner. They were delighted to have all the surprises in store for them. I was particularly in love with the dinosaurus piggy banks from Chloe's godma Tricia cos they had Chloe & Ethan's names on it! They're so COOL!

Happy Family Graduation Concert 2010

Chloe's graduation concert is held on a Friday this year. Pete & I rushed from work to give our support. This is the 3rd time Chloe is performing on stage with her school mates from Happy Family & the best performance from Chloe we've seen so far.

Thinking back, my girl has grown so much. On her very first exposure on stage when she was in playgroup, she stood still on stage till the entire song is over. We had a good laugh. Last year Chloe danced & did the little cute actions that were required. However she was very shy. This year she impressed us. She was very engrossed in her dance & sang along when she performed to 小手在那里. The only regret is that the song was rather short, only 1 min. Pete & I had hoped to catch Chloe in action for a little longer.

Anyway, it's a job well done Chloe. Mummy is proud of you!

We spent our Saturday on board a yacht @ One Degree 15 together with my colleagues from Allycat. Rachael had arranged the outing specially for us & our family members.

Being an exclusive club, I took the chance to snap more pictures with the kids & Pete. Chloe can't wait to go swimming at the club pool. A near mishap happened when we were at the pool side. As none of us are in our swimming gear except for Chloe, we had intended to bring her only to a child's pool. Upon seeing my colleagues's daughters at the shallower end of the main pool, we joined them. Chloe merely had 5 mins of play with her beach toys & one of her toy drifted away. Stepping back, she hit the deeper end of the pool. Her head immediately bobbed down & she choked. Luckily, our helper Wati stepped in fully clothed & pulled Chloe out of the pool. I was still in shocked as Ethan was in my arms then. Phew! what a scary sight. Chloe cried while choking, but she was alright. Thanks to Wati for her quick thinking.

We led Chloe away from the main pool & headed for the child's pool as it was too dangerous. As time passes, she forgot about the incident & played for a while more before we headed back to the yacht to join the rest.

Overall, it was a fun filled outing & we only got home close to 11pm!

We celebrated this year's National Day at the Marina Bay front. The view was great. Best of all, the crowd was orderly & we have ample space to enjoy ourselves. We picnic on the wooden decks, facing the magnificent Singapore skyline. A clean venue I must say, best of all its FREE! Only regret? It's time to upgrade my camera!

Universal Studio (Sentosa)

I am nearing the end of my maternity leave soon. Before I return to the workforce, Pete & I thought it's a good idea to bring the kids out for some fun at the newly opened resorts world. We arranged the trip together with Irene & Ian on Sunday. We brought Ethan along too although he stayed with our helper most of the time.

Chloe & Ian were especially excited. The sun shone mercilessly. Sadly, we left our much needed sun protection at home :P Luckily, we brought enough water & snacks so that everyone stayed energetic & hydrated throughout the day. The turnout for the day is huge, being a weekend, we expected the long queues for the rides. Chloe was quite restless while waiting in line , the chuppa chups we brought along certainly helped us distract her!

Overall, the trip is a hit with the kids. I could have enjoyed the outing more if the weather is cooler & I wouldnt be busy tending to a baby who needs to be fed every few hourly.

Hair For Hope

Pete volunteered to have his hair shaved for the annual Hair For Hope organised by the Children's Cancer Foundation. This is the 2nd time Pete is participating. I remembered the first time when Pete had his hair shaved to a bald look, we were not even married.

On sunday, Chloe & I went to cheer Pete on for his shaving session at Vivo City. Chloe was excited & kept saying that Papa is goin to spot a botak head. However, she grew tired while waiting & fell asleep 10 mins before papa is up on stage to have his hair shaved.

The event drew a much stronger support this year probably due to more awareness of childhood cancer.

I Want Eggs!

Chloe has made significant improvement yesterday. She no longer complains of pain in her mouth.

Gong Gong & Po Po paid us a visit & even got her bananas & cheese. I was hesistant to let her try rice with tofu for dinner but she ate them all & even remarked to me & said: Mummy, no more pain. See? I eating rice! I feel so relieved & glad my girl is ok now.

My poor Chloe, she is so hungry & requested me to buy her chocolate. But when she opened the wrapper, all she could do is feed me instead. It's too painful for her to eat. I tried to reciprocate by feeding her, all she could do is give me a faint smile & shook her head.

She opened the fridge to take a peek, closed the fridge door & walked away. She must be very hungry, if not she would not do this.

God, please give her the strength to fight the illness so she can be bubbly & smiling again.

HFMD - These 4 alphas spells trouble to me. Hand Foot Mouth disease is highly contagious.

Monday morning's routine temperature check @ Chloe's school detected a high temperature. Chloe was sent home immediately. Following that, I brought her to the doc to verify. Ulcers were found in her mouth. There were tiny dots on parts of her palms & toes. She was given a gel to apply & instructed to take paracetomol to bring down her fever. From then on, her condition got worse. She refused lunch & water & gradually her favourite milk. More dots were found on her limbs & she is very irritable & refused to open her mouth for us. Her condition was confirmed on Tuesday morning when I brought her for a review again.

It's exhausting for all of us at home, trying to separate the 2 kids. Chloe is whiny & will cry nonstop if we were to coax her to down anything down her throat. Icy cold watermelon, gummy, ice-cream, ribena, yogurt drink. We gave her everything we can think of. But she survived on merely 160ml of formula milk yesterday. The last thing I want is to hospitalise her if she is dyhydrated.

Luckily, I managed to give her 2 milk feeds comprising of about 120ml each since morning. Swallowing & eating is still an agonising task for her.

I really hope after the initial 2 days of severe discomfort, my poor girl's condition will improve gradually by tomorrow. I pray that all will be well at home.

We had a baby shower party for Ethan over the weekend. Time really flies & I've finally gone thru the much hated confinement period.

Preparation for the baby shower was not as smooth sailing as I want it to be. We changed the date once cos Pete was called back to work. After the change, Pete still could not make it for Ethan's baby shower. In the end, poor daddy has to rush back for a mere 2 hours just to be present.

As I was running about to entertain my relatives n close friends, only a few miserable photos were taken. I regretted this very much as I did not have a decent photo taken with my boy :(

Overall, I enjoyed the party. Food was good & I have some time catching up again with my friends. At the end of the day, I had a headache & aching back. But nevermind, my confinement is over!

Exhausted!!

Just as I am nearing the last week of my confinement, my domestic helper is down with high fever. We brought her to the doc & have no choice but to handle the household stuff & kids without her help.

Handling a baby & an active toddler can be pretty nerve racking. As it's a weekend, Chloe is home. Needless to say, besides tending to the needs of Ethan, I have to take turns with Pete to care for Chloe as well. Chloe is constantly seeking attention. She would not sit still to watch any programme we play for her. If she sees me going into the room to breastfeed Ethan, she would want to join me thus creating extra frustration for me. She would step on the bed & disrupt the peace & quiet time I need. I am also careful not to hurt her feelings as she would cry at the drop of the hat if I reprimand her about hurting Ethan if she is not careful.

Chloe also takes forever to finish her meals whenever the food is not that appealing to her. In fact, she choked as she was not concentrating on chewing & bits of rice ended up splatted on the floor. Today is the first time I picked up the broom since the maid's arrival. Before that, I am accustomed to using a vacuum cleaner. As it's quite heavy to operate, I decided to just make do & use a broom instead.

My two dearies are fast asleep now. In no time, I have to get out the pump & start 'work' again. Hopefully, I will survive tomorrow without having an aching back & pounding headache!

Even before Ethan is born, Pete & I had discussed that we do not want Chloe to get bored & lonely after little bro's arrival. As I am still doing my confinement at home & not supposed to step out of the house, Pete & Chloe went on a trip to the birdpark without me.

It was my company's family day & from the pictures below, I can see that Chloe is having a fun time with Pete not to mention the many treats like candy floss, ice-cream & jelly she gets to eat. The downpour that came down in torrents during the trip did not dampen her mood at all!

2 Weeks Have Passed...

It's impossible to have undisturbed sleep when you have a newborn that requires constant & regular feeding. Before you realised it, 2-3 hours is up & it's time to drag your tired torso up in the wee hours of the morning & feed your little one.

At times, I can feel the hardened lump under my clothes. It's definitely not the best circumstances to dream on. In fact, on the 1st week after Ethan is home, I had a few wierd nightmares. Not to mention the post op pain from the c-section. It took a longer time to subside & I was afraid to rupture the stitches when I suddenly cough cos of the itch in my throat.

Having a helper & my mom in law around is certainly helpful. I am able to catch up on my much needed beauty sleep & rest my aching back & shoulders after Chloe is off to childcare.

My consolation is that Chloe is getting quite comfortable with Ethan's presence now. Pete & I tried to give her the attention she needed. She would ask for didi the first thing she wakes up or when she is home from school.

My only wish is for my confinement to end fast! I never enjoy this stage at all be it now or 3 years ago. I am looking forward to the day I can indulge in some coffee, bubble tea & spicy food :)

Crispy Crowns

Since I am free before I pop, I decided to let Chloe try her hand at baking. This is not new to her especially she has done this before in childcare. I saw this simple recipe on a book called Baking With Toddlers. Ingredients are easily available & most important of all they are healthy.

Ingredients
25g dried apricots
50g puff rice
20g strawberry fruit flakes or dried cranberries
(in fact u can replace with any kind of dried fruits)
1 tbspoon golden syrup or runny honey
50g caster sugar (i did not add sugar at all)
50g butter or magarine

Use a clean pair of scissors to cut the dried aprcots inot small pcs in a mixing bowl

Ask ur child to set out 20 or so small paper cases on a large serving plate or tray

Place the syrup, caster sugar n butter into a small saucepan and heat gently until just bubbly. Stir together, then remove from heat allow to cool for 5 mins.

help your child pour the cooled syrup over the puffed rice mixture and stir it all together with a dessertspoon till the rice is covered in the sticky syrup mix.

show them how to take a heaped teaspoon of the mixture to fill each case, but work quickly as the mixture will set as it cools.

Counting Down to D Day

8 more days. I am slowly getting excited n waiting in anticipation for the arrival of my son Ethan. My son? Suddenly I feel quite emotional & there is a mixture of thoughts in my mind.

First, I am married (kind of late, but better than never? :P), then I have a beautiful girl who is 3 now. I never really imagine to get a son, not that I've always wanted a boy. Just not in my thoughts at all really. Soon, my family is going to be completed & there are many more responsibilities & hurdles I have to overcome in the near future. It's another phase of my life being a 2nd time mummy. It's wonderful feeling.

Although the planned c-section will only be on the 15th, I am already on my maternity leave. With the hectic schedule at work, I just wanted some peace n quiet time for myself, for Chloe before I get too busy with Ethan & for the newly appointed housemaid to get herself acquainted with her job. Not forgetting Pete, we intend to catch another movie before I popped.

My last check up with Doc Wong yesterdy was good. Ethan has grown alot for the past 2 weeks from 2.37kg to 2.9kg! I had actually lost abit of weight to my surprise. Looks like all the food I've been gobbling down recently did have some effect on my little prince :P The only discomfort came from my achy back & buttocks. Strangely, my feet is fine for this pregnancy. No pig trotter legs & water retention. So Pete is spared from the nightly rituals of foot massage he had to do compared to Chloe's time ha!

We were at God Ma Tricia & God Pa Sam's house today. It's Baby Udelle's 1st birthday party! Chloe is excited this morning & woke me up hurrying me to get ready.

It's a fun-filled day for Chloe today. We got to the Sunhaven condo function room @ 1pm. Chloe was actually looking forward for the swim instead of the birthday party today. She has been deprived of her regular swim session since last year cos of her bad bout of ezcema. Naturally when she knows we are going to god ma's house, the only thing on her mind is the pool :P

The party venue was decked in a pastel shade of pink & white balloons & photos of Udelle taken from her 1st to 12 months. God ma Tricia really made a tremendous effort in organizing the perfect birthday party for baby Udelle.

35th Week

It's still best to take a morning slot for my monthly check ups. At least, I dun waste precious time spent sitting at the doc idling away.

During the routine ultrasound scan this morning, I can see Ethan moving his mouth as if he is munching away. This is not the 1st time the scan caught him doing this.

After only 2 wks, he is at 2.37kg today. Perhaps, he is really digesting the durians I had last week! 3 more weeks... this is how long I have to wait to greet my little boy. His birthday is set on 15 May 2010 as I will be going for my c-sect anyway.

I did not shop alot for this second pregnancy possibly due to the fact that boys have less things to buy? :P or that I've already got some neccessities like breast pump, rocker, sterilizer etc either passed down from friends or relatives or from my first pregnancy.

Nevertheless, date set, room booked. I am all set to welcome Ethan to this world for my 4D 3N stay at TMC :)

Dunch You Underestimate Me

Since birth, Pete & I have been speaking English with Chloe. We do speak the occasional Mandarin with her. As for me & Pete, we communicate mainly in Mandarin. I guess this is how Chloe got to understand what we are telling each other especially so that she is taught Chinese in childcare.

Just after dinner, while sitted on the sofa, I was having a conversation with Pete.

Me: 今晚宝宝睡那里？
(Chloe is supposed to be sleeping with Wati before Ethan's arrival)But we failed quite miserably for the past 2 days as Chloe will wake up & request maid to bring her back to my room.
Pete: 跟wati睡咯
Me：她昨天睡到半夜又爬起来你知道吗？不如今晚就不把冷气关掉，看她会睡到天亮吗。
Chloe sitted between us replied: DON'T WANT. I want to sleep on mummy's bed.

This nearly threw me off my seat laughing out loud! Wahahaha..

Before I pop, I told pete I want to try some durians.. maybe Ethan can be a chubbier baby? So on Sunday night, we headed for Geylang for some durians.

Chloe was not really interested in these thorny fruits. Initially she told papa she wants to eat durians with so much zest, after she tasted a small bite, she shook her head n lamented she is FULL!

So while we were savouring the durians, Chloe was doodling on a piece of paper.

Pregnancy - 33 weeks

I am due for another appointment with Doc Wong next Tuesday..By then, I should finalised on the date of my c-section. The frequency of my monthly check ups is on a bi-monthly basis now. Ethan is approximately 1.8kg, average size baby I must say.

I am feeling more lethargic especially after work. At times, I feel breathless possibly to the lack of space in my ballooning bulge. The numerous sleepless nights, frequent visits to the toilet somehow made me want Ethan to be born soon yet part of me still wants to spend more time with Chloe before she officially sleeps with aunty wati (my newly engaged housemaid) at night while I take care of little one.

What will happen next in another few months time is still a big question mark in my head. Will I survive the dreaded breastfeeding stage? Will I have painful engorgement like my first pregnancy? Will Chloe be well behaved without my constant supervision or will she get jealous of her newly arrived sibling?

I guess I will only know when the time comes!

Finally, after months of debating on which name we like best, we have decided on a name for little brother.

We were torn between naming him Caleb or Ethan. Well, Pete has a preference on Caleb while I prefer Ethan.

Caleb - Of Hebrew origin meaning faith, devotion & Whole hearted.
Ethan - also of Hebrew origin meaning firm & strong.

We have come to a compromise, with me getting the name I like & Pete choosing his Chinese name. Jia Le 家乐 meaning Happy Family.

Birthday Parties

March is a month full of birthday celebrations. This is especially so for the March 07 motherhood forum thread. As Chloe is born in the month of March, hence we have a few invitations from friends from the March 07 thread.

On Saturday, we went to Reyden & Reye's birthday celebrations at the NSRCC. The theme was Mickey clubhouse. The venue was decorated with mickey clubhouse theme & colour co-ordinated latex ballloons.

Chloe enjoyed herself especially when she caught sight of the slide that irin has brought along. Gradually, she even went up bravely to get an elmo painted on her face by the painter.

This morning was another party at Edelweiss Park Condo. It's to celebrate Tian Tian's birthday. The party venue was also decked in a pastel hue of sweet pink & pearl white coloured balloons. The turnout was also big comprising mainly of kids from the march thread as well. Chloe mingled with her friends & had a great time these 2 days. She is also aware her birthday is nearing the corner as she kept telling me that her's will be next.

Pregnancy Update

28 week: At this stage, I am beginning to feel the onslaught of more miserable things to come. This pregnancy is different from my first. From what I can recall, I am still pretty active during this time. Recently, I have been feeling discomfort in my tummy due to the possible braxton hicks contraction. This can happen anytime, when I am at work, or after work. Worst, with the humid & extreme heat these days, I have developed unsightly rash or red bumps on my tummy. They could itch intensely and caused me to scratch incesssantly. Prickly heat powder could help at most for a short 5 mins, after this I am in agony again.

I refrained from perspiring especially at home when my aircon is not on. All I could do are really light chores that dun work up a sweat. The only relief is having the aircon on or the fan blowing at me at full blast.

Sleep was no better. I can wake up in the middle of the night unable to fall asleep again.

Hopefully, when I see Doc Wong in a few days, she could update me on my symptoms n help me alleviate my sufferings!

My New Bed

It will be 3 more months till I am due with #2. We have thought of putting Chloe to her room to sleep on her own for some time. It would be ideal if this is done in stages.

Recently, Chloe has been waking up in the middle of the night. She would normally sleep through. Perhaps, this is due to her ezcema which gave her problems. We hope she would be able to adjust to the transition when the maid comes in during March.

While shopping for extra chairs at Ikea yesterday, we managed to get a good deal for her bed. As we were near the AS-IS section which sells items rejected by buyers or display stuff, I spotted a sales stuff pushing in a bed that we initially wanted to get for Chloe. Due to the higher price tag, we decided not to. On checking with the staff, we got to know that the bed is going at half price as it is a display piece from their showroom. We were delighted to get this chance as the bed can be extended if Chloe outgrows at a later stage.

As of now, we hope to get Chloe adjusted to sleeping in her own room so that there is space for #2's playpen when the time comes.

Surprise From Aunty Anne

Chloe is celebrating CNY in school today. We got her to wear the present that Aunty Anne got her - a sexy bare back cheong sam top with pants. Aunty Anne is the 'cooking aunty' in Chloe's cc. She dotes on Chloe alot & ever got her a pooh bear before she left the school. Chloe sleeps with the bear at night. Now, Aunty Anne is back to work at Happy Family, again she never fail to surprise Chloe. We were so touched by her gesture & got her a box of chocolates to thank her.

Pete got a pair of entry tickets to the live telecast of the Lunar New Year Carlsberg variety show at Mediacorp. So we set off at 5.30pm to Caldecott Hill.

This trip is kind of disappointing as I did not know that we are going for a show that is filmed LIVE. No big deal if it's only me & Pete going. I felt so guilty after the trip that till now, I am still blaming myself. I was thinking from Pete's description that we are only going for some 'open hse' at Mediacorp. Hence, I did not prepare food or milk for Chloe.

The live show started at about 7pm with the host 'teaching' us when to clap, when to cheer. This is an eye opener for me as I have not been to a live show at all. It's really entertaining intially, there are many breaks in between for props & stuff. Hence a typical 2 hour variety show can last twice as long! This was the time I got worried. Chloe did not have anything to eat before the trip, I had a pathetic 2-3 candies in my bag & her water bottle. By about 8, she is starting to get impatient & cranky.

Chloe however got to see her Idol in the channel 8 drama TOGETHER. She kept asking for 'xiao bei', Dai Yang Tian's name in the drama series. She saw him sing & kept asking for him after the song. It's quite funny I thought, cos i kept telling her excitedly see XIAO BEI? to engage her in the show for fear of her being bored. It seems mummy is the one more excited than her haha!

We ended the night earlier before the actual show finishes & rushed back home in a cab. Never will I miss to pack any food in Chloe's bag again. This is the first time she did not have her milk/ dinner till 11.30pm!!!

Monthly Check Up

I am in my 24th week now. How time flies. I've gained about 2.5kg since my last visit one month ago. Baby is of average weight now at 700g. He is an active boy. During the ultrasound scan yesterday, we can see him moving & making sucking movements with his mouth :)

Doctor Wong compared my current weight gain with Chloe's time. I started 3kg heavier. However I've gained less compared to the same period then. Boy I am kinda happy to hear that. I definitely do not want to weigh more than I should before I reach my last trimester!

At this moment, I am beginning to feel the strain especially when I walk too fast or up hill. At times when I am stressed out, I experienced braxton hicks as well. My tummy would get so tight & uncomfortable that I can literally lie down (if i can find a place) & stroked on my tummy nonstop. Only then, would I feel better & relaxed. If not, I would be seen walking with my legs slightly open (yes i think its quite unsightly!) & hugging my bump like holding a heavy watermelon.

Hopefully, I wouldn't experience more of these discomforts that soon.

Choosing A Name ..

It's never easy to select a name for our children. It's surprisingly easy during Chloe's time. I just chose Chloe cos I like it. We borrowed books on baby names but have not really shortlisted any name for #2.

I contemplated with the idea of using 'C' as well but did not really like the ones that are available.

So far, I've got 2 names in my mind namely Colin & Ethan. No special reason just like the name. I've asked Chloe a number of times & each time she giggled & said ETHAN & she even told me she does not like other names. I am not sure if I should get the cue from her or continue searching for more names.

Well..the search continues.. any nice names dun forget to buzz me!

Chloe's CNY Song

I was just thinking if I should teach Chloe a song or 2 during this festive season. I am not very good in Chinese songs, let alone teach her how to sing the new year songs. What came to my mind was only one song, but after I sang to Chloe did I realised that she already knew it from school.

I learnt from Teacher Cao that Chloe's class had just begun to learn CNY songs & only a handful of children were able to sing along. Just on Sunday Chloe only knew the 1st sentence..today she graduated to learn the other 4 phrases & she loves to do the actions of gong xi gong xi while singing.

Hopefully by CNY she is able to sing to gong gong? Hhaha...

Ezcema

Blame it on me. Chloe inherited my genes & got bad skin. First it's her bout of chicken pox after she turned 2. Then it graduated to almost non-stop problems with her skin. Mysterious rashes which healed gradually, then bouts of ezcema ranging from mild to the now raw & painful skin.

Chloe will scream in pain in the bath most times. She will insist not to have her right hand cleaned. This is because her skin is raw & painful from scratching. Sometimes, we succeed in distracting her with toys while we bath her. Sometimes, she will let out a high pitch scream from pain n discomfort when all we wanted is to give her a bath.

It pains us to see her suffer yet we can't share her agony except diligently bringing her to the doc & consistently applying medication & moisturising for her.

Havn't been updating this blog regularly. Been quite stressed out with planning for little one's arrival. Just by thinking of who to care for him after my maternity leave is already a big headache for me. I am in my 24th week by now..

Been studying maid bios for the past one week. Development has been slow & I missed the chance to interview 2 maids cos the agency is very slow in reverting back! I am looking for other options now. Wish me luck! Sigh, I am torn between having a maid & doing without.

Anyway, I shall update soon on more of Chloe's development in school. She is a funny & cheerful girl these days. My conversation with her is pretty interesting at times. She is my sweetheart.

I started counting down to 2010 with a sore throat. By new years day, I've partially lost my voice. I spent my day sleeping n resting, practically 'wasting' my time away. I have no mood to do anything as I have extreme pain on my right temples.

By 2 Jan, I have no choice but to go to the doc. I thought there is no way I can avoid spending more money. By then, my headache got more severe & my stubborn cough is acting up. Everytime I cough, it triggers the vein in my head & kept pulling till I am in agony. All in all, I've seen the doc twice in a span of 2 days. I just can't tolerate the pain anymore!!

We had an enjoyable time with the March 07 kids & mummies today. It's a huge turnout with daddies, mummies, grannys, kids & maids in tow. Aunty Mist had painstakingly arranged the venue for us. Together with Auntie Irin & Auntie Juliet's creativity, the kids partied hard with games, music & surprises tonight. The aircon breakdown did not dampen anyone's mood at all. Ian's Birthday

24 December is Ian's birthday. Every year Chloe will go to gor gor's school to celebrate with him. This year without fail she went with yi ma to gor gor's school & spent a few hours at his party. She had fun watching Ian at school. Chloe was shy though & all the teachers in school calls her 'mei mei'. That's what Ian address her everytime.

Chloe had a huge appetite today. Besides the birthday cake, Chloe had sphegetti & hotdogs. Sadly, the pictures taken in school are not with me yet.

We had a second round of celebrations at Irene's house in the evening. Gong Gong & Po Po were present too.

Monthy Check up

Nearly missed my appointment today with Doctor Wong. Luckily I read my appointment card in time on the way to work & made it in time for my monthly check up.

I am at 16 weeks today. I've gained an extra 2 kg & baby is now approx 9cm long. All is well except that I have to load up my calcium intake by drinking more milk. I am not a milk lover. It's always a challenge for me to take my minimum 2 glasses supply every day.

During the ultrasound, we managed to see a little something in between baby's legs. So for now, it's 90% accurate. I can't wait for next month's detailed scan to confirm what we saw today so Pete can really jump for joy.

For me, either gender is equally fine with me as I feel I am better able to doll up a girl than a boy. Well...let's see!

I've always wanted to lose that extra 3kg or so ever since Chloe is born. My body is not as tone during my gym days. Then, I used to bodycombat for up to 5 times in a week. Now? My days are spent working & coming home to a hyper active girl. The only exercise I do now is screaming my voice hoarse from disciplining my naughty girl whenever she refused behave.

I can stop thinking of losing that flab at least not till No 2 is born. Yes, I am pregnant again & in the beginning of my 2nd trimester. This pregnancy did came as a surprise to me. I did not expect to see the positive sign on the test kit so soon. Nevertheless, at that moment, I do really hope all will be well this round.

So for now, I can bravely reveal my tummy in a bikini without being conscious of my previously flabby tummy :)

X'mas Decorating @ Home

We had fun putting up our X'mas decor last week. Check out my $3 tree which I bought last year. It's stands at 5 foot tall, just nice to place in a little nook we have in our living room. We've spent the last week shopping for our ornaments at Tekka mall.

It's pretty exciting to have our own X'mas tree for the first time in our new house this year. We were overwhelmed by the different colour themes we can have for a simple X'mas tree. Pete & I had a hard time deciding between a colour theme for our tree. Alas, what we've ended up is neither the gold or silver we had in mind initially. We've got a combination of pink, blue & silver theme with white 'feathers' to get the snowy feel.

We are checking out at 2pm today. Before heading back to Singapore, we spent our morning at the beach & pool side. Chloe still did not get over her phobia of the sand. She seemd quite miserable sitting on her own on the beach towel.

Phuket (Day 3)

Our morning was spent at Patong beach after a hearty breakfast. In some of the pictures, you can see Chloe frowning not daring to step on the sand.

This local eating outlet sells fantastic Tom Yam fried rice. Love the taste of lemon grass infused into the rice. We had some satay, local hokkien mee & of cos Tom Yam fried rice. Again, Chloe knocked out before lunch is served. She again depended on only milk for lunch!

After lunch, we proceeded to the local products shop to get some biscuits & tidbits for relatives. We also visited the premium outlet to check out factory prices merchandise. I got some puzzles for Chloe while she played happily with Ian & one of the staff there. Our shopping trip was short-lived as we met with a super heavy downpour. It was quite hard shop hopping around with the kids around. It was quite a funny sight when Pete managed to get a gigantic umbrella from somewhere & sheltered 5of us in the heavy downpour. After awhile, we gave up & decided to head for birdnest nearby.

Our day ended early to our disappointment as our driver had last minute committments. We ended up eating cup noodles & local food bought from outside our hotel in the comfort of our hotel room.

Dinner @ a local restaurant not frequented by tourists. It's about half hour drive from Patong beach, recommended to us by our taxi guide. Cheap & value for money Thai food. Of cos at this restaurant, I had the most awesome Tom Yam Kung I've ever tasted. Power!! Sadly, Chloe fell asleep on the way there & Ian was pretty restless & had not much appetite for the seafood we've ordered.

Jigsaw Again

Chloe seems to be getting the hang of doing jigsaw puzzles nowadays. Especially so when she is away from school due to her rashes. She would ask me to bring out some puzzles for her to complete.

I enjoy doing the puzzles with her. Sometimes when Chloe has problems completing a certain part of the puzzle, she will get frustrated & tell me she can't do it. She would request me to sit down with her to guide her along. I am still trying to test her patience as we feel that Chloe needs encouragment in this area. Completing her puzzle really help boosts her self esteem as we would always cheer her on everytime she puts on the final piece.

Doing jigsaw not only tests her memory & patience, this educational activity also engages her & keeps her mind active. It teaches her problem solving skills, fine tune her motor skills. At least, I think it's better than watching hi-5 & Hello Kitty cartoons all the time when I am busy with my chores!

Chloe's rashes did not get any better. We took some time off work to send her to TTSH. Diagnosis? Viral rash. Only anti itch medication & no cream prescribed. Initially the doctor even suggested it could be zoster, chicken pox & even Hand Foot Mouth disease. All these we dismissed soon after as some of her symptoms are different.

Chloe seems to have no phobia of the doctor as she got to help herself to the little treats after the treatment.

I Love Shoes

I have been noticing that Chloe can be quite a vain pot especially after she has turned 2. She would go to the mirror after I've dressed her & she would tell me what she wants to wear from her wardrobe.

She has a penchant for shoes too. She loves to try on different styles of shoes when we are shopping including crocs & adult slippers. She would make herself at home while I am trying on shoes at a store. Once I was a Novo, she actually took 3 pairs of different coloured shoes & lined them up near the mirror taking turns to wear them!

This pictures is no exception. Yi Ma wants to get a pair of puma for Ian. Chloe is as happy as a bird when Yi Ma helped her to put on a pair of boys shoes just for the fun of it.

Recently, Chloe has been giving me little surprises almost every day. She has made vast improvements over her vocabulary. Over the past week or so she used words like Television, sleeves, permission, beautiful & sexy! She woke up 2 days ago, smiled at me & said Mummy I want to watch television.

Yesterday morning, while I was getting ready for work, she stood at a corner & watch me put on my make up & asked Mummy how come rain?

Haha! Gosh My little angel is growing up so fast that mummy has to learn how to answer her questions tactfully!

This morning, she asked: Mama you beautiful? I was pretty amused by her question.
I asked her again thinking to myself if she really knows the meaning of beautiful. Mama beautiful? I asked her again. Yes mama beautiful. She replied smiling at me :)

Jigsaw Fun

I had a pleasant surprise today. While cleaning the house, Chloe followed me into her room & saw the box of jigsaw puzzles at the top of the wardrobe. She requested me to bring down for her. Since I am busy I thought I would just let her play with them herself so I can be done with my chores fast.

She sat herself down on the floor & began to match the puzzle pieces together on her own. I left her & went into the kitchen. About 5 mins time I was surprised that she was still working on the puzzle. Previously I have to sit with her & we have done the puzzle about 2-3 times. Each time she would lose interest & wander off.

This time round she managed to pick up the correct pieces & managed to work out certain parts of the puzzle based on the colour theme & the pictures she saw. I was excited & called out to daddy to watch Chloe play. We encouraged her along the way & praised her alot. Daddy guided her along reminding her of the wrong pieces she had put in place. She was able to sit through for 20 minutes & finish the puzzle on her own. GOOD JOB CHLOE!!

Viral Infection

Chloe came back from childcare with rash on her eyelids on Friday. She began scratching on her legs & arms as well soon after. After 2 days of monitoring & rash cream & no improvement, we decided to send her to the doctor. She was diagnosed with a viral infection & given medication to stop her itch. These dot like bumps are obvious on her fair skin. I really hope these spots will disappear soon as they are really quite unsightly!

Chloe had fun with Pete @ the Asian Civilisation Museum tonight. This was Chloe's 1st Halloween experience. She was all dolled up to look a part of the event. My little 'devil' look devilishly cute in her red devil horns & pitch fork. Unfortunately mummy was quite tired to tag along & decided to stay home to rest instead. From the pics daddy took, Chloe really enjoyed herself especially since eating mashmallow & icecream was her favourite!

It's been some time since I caught up with Tricia, Chloe's godma & my long time friend I'd known from the then IRC (internet relay chat). We decided to dine at T3 on Friday night after work to catch up.

Sam & Tricia came over to pick us together with their darling baby Udelle. Chloe was thrilled to meet Baby Udelle cos I've told her the day before that we would be dining with god ma & god pa.

We had an enjoyable & hearty pasta dinner at a very ideal location. Chloe had fun playing with Godpa & even held hands with him while walking. The conversation was centred around our little ones (of cos) & our upcoming trip to Phuket. Tricia had also passed me some maps & info on Phuket island.

What I realised now as I am typing this post is that we've missed taking shots together! So no pics to post in this update :(

We must get together again & remember to take a family shot of our 2 families together :)

Chloe & I woke up early today. Pete was already off for his company's treasure hunt. I decided to bring Chloe to the nearby coffeeshop for breakfast by myself. On most Sundays, we would travel to somewhere to have prata for brunch or I would fry an omelette with ham & corn for Chloe when she wakes while Pete can sleep longer in bed.

This morning was pretty pleasant for me. Chloe was exceptionally well behaved. She would wait for me on her seat while I kept an eye on her while queueing for breakfast from afar. Chloe managed to finish a plain prata on her own, loaded with sprinkles of sugar of cos. After breakfast, I pushed Chloe in her stroller 2 bus stops away to get some fruits & eggs. The weather was good, in fact a beautiful sunday morning. I decided to stop by at a nearby playground as a surprise trip for her because of her good behaviour.

She was as happy like a bird. I gave her a choice between two locations & instructed her that we could only stay for 10 mins. Alas, our time spent at the playground was a merely 8 minutes or so when we heard the distant sound of thunder. We decided to head home.

You Are So Sweet

Pete is on night shift this week. After dinner, Chloe & I sat down on the sofa & watched a programme on Channel U together. The show featured lots of crabs. Chloe was able to recognise them & said out loud CRAB! mummy crab! There sitting with my fat bum resting on my comfortable seat, I watched with interest the different kinds of delicacies you can make out of a hairy creature.

Then Chloe blurted out:
Mummy u want eat crab?
She gave me a sincere look on her face as if really intent on waiting for my answer.
I replied: Yes.
Tomorrow Chloe buy for mama ok? I gave her a look in surprise.
Only for mummy? what about papa I asked.
Chloe replied: Tomorrow Chloe buy for mama & papa ok?
I was amused & continued teasing her exclaiming how sweet & thoughtful she is.
Then i asked her: So do you have money?
She looked at me smiling & replied NO! Chloe no money & went on playing on her own.

I just thought inside me, this is enough to make me melt & smile to think how fortunate I am to have her.

Outing to ION

I just wanted to try the much hyped Takoyaki from the foodcourt at ION Orchard. So we brought Chloe together with us after school to check it out.

Verdict? not bad & the queue was moving quite fast though Pete thought it would taste better if there are more varieties for the filling. He doesnt eat Octopus :P
